삽은 Unearthly Excavation 맵에 나오는 도구이다.

삽은 대걸레나 탐지기와는 달리 시작할 때부터 주어지지 않고, 레이저 용접기나 빗자루처럼 오브젝트로서 찾아내야 한다. 그러나 삽은 레이저 용접기와는 달리 손으로 집어든 이후에는 죽거나 재시작하지 않는 이상 해당 맵을 플레이하는 동안 플레이어의 인벤토리 4번 슬롯에 계속 자리하게 된다. 이미 처음 삽을 집어든 이후로 집어드는 삽은 도구가 아닌 일반 오브젝트로 취급된다. 삽은 관리인 트렁크를 통해 사무실로 가져올 수 있다.

삽으로 모래를 퍼올리려면 삽을 들고 바닥의 모래를 조준하고 좌클릭하면 된다. 모래를 퍼올린 상태에서는 좌클릭으로 조준한 곳에 모래를 살짝 내려놓거나 우클릭으로 조준한 곳에 모래를 멀리 던져버릴 수 있다. 또한 모래를 퍼올린 상태로 아래를 쳐다보면 흘려버리기 때문에 플레이어가 바로 밟고 있는 모래는 퍼올릴 수 없다. 모래를 퍼올리지 않은 상태로 우클릭을 누른다면 대걸레나 빗자루와 마찬가지로 조준한 곳을 때려서 그곳에 위치한 오브젝트를 밀치게 된다.

삽으로 만든 작은 모래 더미

모래를 떨어뜨리면 그곳에 작은 모래 더미가 생기고 같은 자리에 모래를 더 떨어뜨릴 수록 모래 더미가 커진다. 이것은 구덩이 괴물을 무력화시키는 유일한 방법이며 삽이 존재하는 맵의 주요 목표이다. 플레이어는 구덩이 괴물이 완전히 파묻혀서 움직임과 소리를 멈출 때까지 구덩이 괴물의 입에 모래를 집어넣어야 한다. At this point it is no longer a hazard to the player, and safe for the player to walk over the filled pit. Note that the player can also use the shovel to remove sand from a filled pit monster. This will "wake up" the creature, and if enough sand is removed, eventually it will be able to swallow objects (and the player) once again.

The players can remove placed sand with either the shovel or the mop. Attempting to remove sand with the mop will eventually dirty the mop, so this is not recommended. It should be noted that sand cannot be taken from or placed on areas covered with mess decals such as blood or soot. However, sand placed with the shovel can itself become covered in various splatters. Sand placed anywhere on top of an object will simply fall through the object, creating a pile beneath it and pushing up the object. If the object cannot be moved, the sand will still fall to the ground, but the top of the object will be seen clipping through the sand pile.

The Shovel can be used to detonate Mining Explosives by hitting them.
