알리스 기-블라쉐 / 알리스 기-블라셰(Alice Guy Blaché) 또는 알리스 기는 영화 역사상 세계 최초의 여성 감독이라고 평가 받는다.

기-블라쉐의 '기(Guy)'는 그가 결혼하기 전 가졌던 원래 성씨이다. 블라쉐(Blaché)는 1907년 결혼한 허버트 블라쉐(Herbert Blaché)의 성씨이다. 허버트 블라쉐와는 1922년 이혼했기 때문에, 아래부터는 '알리스 기'로 통일한다.

생애

알리스 기는 처음 영화 일을 펠릭스-막스 리차드(Felix-Max Richard)의 비서 겸 촬영 보조로 시작했다. 그가 일하던 회사는 1895년 고몽(Léon Gaumont) 외 3명의 소유로 넘어가게 되고, 회사는 고몽의 이름을 따게 된다. (이 회사가 현재 남아있는 프랑스의 영화사 고몽의 전신이다.)

알리스 기는 고몽의 비서로 일을 하다 곧 다수의 고객을 상대하고, 홍보 전략에도 관여하는 등 경력과 영향력을 키워나갔다. 당시 그는 영화계에서 두각을 드러내는 이들과 교류가 잦았다. 일례로 알리스 기와 고몽은 1895년 3월 22일 열린 뤼미에르 형제의 행사에 참여해 영화를 상영한 적도 있었다. 뤼미에르 형제는 당시 세계 최초로 영화를 찍을 수 있는 기계인 시네마토그래프를 발명한 상태였고, 이 행사는 뤼미에르 형제와 에디슨이 모두 고민하고 있던 기술적 문제를 해결하기 위한 시연의 장이었다.

이후 알리스 기는 고몽 회사에 소속된 상태에서 직접 영화를 제작하고 감독을 겸했다. 1896년부터 1906년까지 그는 고몽 사의 제작 총괄(head of production)이었고 당시 최초로 픽션 영화의 제작을 체계적으로 발전시킨 사람으로 여겨지고 있다.

1907년 알리스 기는 허버트 블라쉐와 결혼을 했고, 블라쉐가 고몽 사의 미국 진출 담당 매니저로 일하게 되면서 알리스 기는 미국에서의 활동을 시작한다. 블라쉐는 프로덕션 매니저와 촬영 감독으로, 알리스 기는 전반적인 감독을 맡는 협업은 상당한 성공을 거두었고 1910년에는 독자적인 영화사 솔락스 스튜디오(Solax Studios)를 설립한다. 그리고 뉴저지의 포트 리(Fort Lee)에 10만 달러를 들여 새 기술을 도입한 시설을 마련하기에 이른다. 당시의 포트 리는 초기 영화사 스튜디오들이 들어서던 곳이었다. 당시의 10만 달러는 현재 (2021년) 기준으로 284만 달러와 맞먹고, 이는 한화로 약 31억원에 달한다.
