프로그레시브 락 밴드 Yes의 대표곡, 1971년 발매된 4번째 정규 앨범 《Fragile》의 1번 트랙에 실린 곡이며 동 앨범의 Long Distance Runaround와 함께 싱글로도 발매되었다. 작곡은 존 앤더슨과 스티브 하우, 작사는 존 앤더슨. 스위스의 북쪽지방, 영국 북쪽 지방을 여행하면서 영감을 얻은 곡이라고 한다. [1] 곡의 길이가 약 8분 36초에 달하는 대곡. 물론 일반적인 곡에 비교하자면 그렇고, 프로그레시브 록이라는 장르의 특성상 Yes의 곡 중에선 평균적인 길이이다.(...) Roundabout은 간접의, 우회적인, 완곡한 등의 의미를 가지고 있고 이 곡에서는 '회전교차로'라는 의미로 사용되었다.
Yes의 곡 중에서도 명실공히 대표곡이라 할 수 있는 위치를 가진 곡이다. 상업적 성공만 따지면 빌보드 1위를 기록한 11번째 앨범 90125의 'Owner Of a Lonely Heart' 에 밀리지만 90125는 기존의 Yes 음악과는 매우 이질적인 행보였기 때문에 일반적으로 Roundabout을 그들의 대표곡으로 친다.[2] 단순히 상업적인 흥행만이 아니라 음악적으로도 호평을 받았는데 프로그레시브 락의 최고 주자들이 모인 슈퍼 밴드라 불리는 Yes, 그중에서도 베스트 멤버라 불리는 Fragile~Close to the Edge 시기의 멤버들의 훌륭한 기량 뿐만 아니라, 각각의 멤버들이 튀는 일 없이 조화롭게 연주를 이끌어 나가고 팝적인 멜로디와 난해한 구성이 조화롭게 잘 섞여 있다. 특히 새로 멤버로 들어온 키보드의 릭 웨이크먼이 돋보인다.이런 이유로 밴드의 곡 중 이 곡을 최고로 뽑는 사람도 많다. 그 당시 정점에 달했던 Yes의 음악 세계를 감상할 수 있는 곡. 미국 Billboard Hot 100 싱글 차트에서 13위를 기록했다.
오덕계에서는 애니메이션 죠죠의 기묘한 모험의 엔딩곡으로 쓰인 것으로 유명하다. 사실 여기 들어온 위키러들은 대부분 이것 때문에 들어왔을 것이다 GTA V Enhanced version의 Los Santos Rock Radio 채널에서도 간혹 흘러나온다.
