홀리 그라운드(The Holy Ground)는 아일랜드의 고전 포크송이다. 제목은 '성지' 를 뜻하는데, 아일랜드 카운티 코크의 코브에 있는 지명이다. 이 지명은 반어적인데, 실제로 이 곳은 서울의 영등포나 미아리와 마찬가지로 유흥업소가 즐비한 유흥가, 대놓고 말해서 빡촌이다(...)
4절로 되어 있는데, 3절로 압축해서 부르는 경우가 많다. 화자는 선원으로, 홀리 그라운드를 떠나 출항하며 여자친구에게 작별 인사를 하고 있다. 그렇게 출항해서 한 판 뛰고서 돈 벌어 가지고 돌아와서는 술집(퍼브)에 들어가 맥주를 마시며 즐겁게 웃다가, 돈이 떨어지면 다시 바다로 나가겠다고 하고 있다. 이는 일종의 니트 퇴폐주의로도 볼 수 있지만, 아일랜드인들의 명랑한 기질을 반영한다고도 할 수 있다.
아일랜드인은 술을 좋아하며, 섬나라다 보니까 돈 벌기 위해 선원 일을 하는 경우가 많다. 이러한 아일랜드인의 국민성이 가사에 반영되어 있다. 가락도 쾌활하고 발랄하다. 아일랜드 노래라 그러면 정작 아일랜드 노래도 아닌 Danny Boy 꼴랑 하나 듣고 와서는 아일랜드 노래는 전부 다 비극적인 역사를 반영하여 침울하고 애잔한 분위기라고 소설을 써 대는 자칭 음악 전문가들의 이야기를 일거에 뒤집는 노래. 당연히 아일랜드 사람들은 이런 류의 쾌활하고 발랄한 노래를 훨씬 더 좋아하고 많이 부른다. <Danny Boy>는 툭 까놓고 말해서 아일랜드 현지인들은 자기네 노래로 취급하지도 않는다.
