컴퓨팅 분야에서 셸(Shell)이란 운영 체제의 서비스에 접근할 수 있는 유저 인터페이스이다. 일반적으로 운영 체제 셸은 컴퓨터의 용도에 따라 커맨드 라인 인터페이스 또는 그래픽 유저 인터페이스를 사용한다. 운영 체제 커널의 가장 바깥 레이어에 해당하기 때문에 껍질이란 뜻으로 셸이라 불린다.[1][2]
